Praised for his “magnetic playing” (Cristian Macelaru), Carlos Ferreira is hailed as one of the most proclaimed clarinetists of our time.

 

Prize winner at the ARD International Competition in Munich, the Geneva International Competition and of the WEMAG Soloist Prize at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Carlos Ferreira captivates audiences with his artistry, refined sound and stage presence.

 

Carlos has been selected as  a European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) Rising Star for the 2024/25 season. As such, he will will perform in some of Europe’s most prestigious concert halls.

 

In 2020, Carlos Ferreira joined the Orchestre National de France as Principal Clarinet. Previously he held the same position with the Philharmonia Orchestra in London and the Orchestre National de Lille.

 

In addition to his engagements with the Orchestre National de France, Carlos enjoys an extensive international career as soloist and chamber musician, performing at the at the world’s major festivals and venues.

 

As soloist, Carlos appeared with the Orchestre National de France, the the Münchener Rundfunkorchester, the Orquestra Filarmónica Portuguesa, the “Transylvania” State Philharmonic Orchestra, the Münchener Kammerorchester, the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève and the Collegium Musicum Basel, always delivering deeply moving performances.

 

As a chamber musician, he has worked with world-renowned musicians such as Hilary Hahn, Alice Sara Ott, Emmanuel Pahud, Eric le Sage, Paul Meyer, Lise Berthaud, Pierre Fouchenneret, Sarah Nemtanu, Quatuor Hermès, Timothy Ridout, Frank Duprée, Nika Goric, Karen Gomyo, Julia Hagen and Sao Soulez-Larivière.

 

Member of the Academy of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2016, Carlos Ferreira pursued his orchestral career at first with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo as Principal E-flat Clarinet.

 

Born in Paredes, Portugal, he received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation while studying at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid, in the class of professors Michel Arrignon and Enrique Pérez Piquer. He later joined the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the class of Arno Piters, and the HEMU of Lausanne in the class of Florent Héau. In Portugal, he was a student of José Ricardo Freitas at the José Atalaya Music Academy and ARTAVE, having completed his degree with Nuno Pinto at the Porto Superior School of Music and Performing Arts (ESMAE).

 

His first joint album with the pianist and composer Pedro Emanuel Pereira titled “XX-XXI” was released in November 2022.

Carlos Alexandre Brito Ferreira, Portugal Sándor Veress (1907-1992) Konzert für Klarinette und Orchester Intonazione su tutti i dodici suoni Danza immaginaria Er wird begleitet vom Münchner Rundfunkorchester unter der Leitung von Valentin Uryupin. Der aus Portugal stammende Carlos Brito Ferreira schloss 2014 sein Bachelorstudium in der Klasse von Nuno Pinto an der Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo in Porto ab. Anschließend studierte er bei Michel Arrignon an der Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid. Als Solist spielte Carlos Brito Ferreira im Jahr 2016 unter anderem Mozarts Sinfonia Concertante mit dem Orquesta Sinfónica Freixenet unter Leitung von Juanjo Mena. Das Konzert wurde live auf CD aufgenommen. Von 2017 bis 2018 spielte er die zweite Soloklarinette (Es-Klarinette) im Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo und trat als Soloklarinettist im Orchestre National de France und im Philharmonia Orchestra auf. Derzeit ist er als erste Klarinette im Orchestre National de Lille engagiert. Der 25-Jährige war Preisträger zahlreicher nationaler und internationaler Wettbewerbe. 2018 wurde Carlos Brito Ferreira mit dem 3. Preis und allen Sonderpreisen des renommierten Concours de Genève ausgezeichnet. ---------- Der ARD-Musikwettbewerb ist mit seinen 21 Fächern, die jährlich wechseln, der größte Wettbewerb für klassische Musik weltweit. Auch in diesem Jahr werden wieder zahlreiche Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer aus allen Kontinenten erwartet. Der Wettbewerb richtet sich an junge Musikerinnen und Musiker, die eine internationale Karriere anstreben. Nach einer Vorauswahl der eingesandten Tonträger wurden die besten Bewerberinnen und Bewerber nach München eingeladen.
