MICHAEL SANDERLING / CONDUCTOR (Italy)
Michael Sanderling has served as Chief Conductor of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra since 2021. Under his leadership, the orchestra has toured Asia, South America and Europe, released acclaimed recordings—including a 2023 Brahms cycle for Warner Classics—and premiered innovative projects such as Shostakovich’s 10th Symphony with William Kentridge’s film "Oh to Believe in Another World". As a guest conductor, Michael Sanderling leads renowned orchestras worldwide, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, the NHK Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra London, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2011 to 2019, he was Chief Conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic, elevating the orchestra’s profile through performances in Dresden and international tours. During this period, he recorded the complete symphonies of Beethoven and Shostakovich for Sony Classical. Prior to this, he served as Chief Conductor of the Kammerakademie Potsdam from 2006 to 2011. He was named “Conductor of the Year” by Opernwelt in 2011 and is committed to teaching and mentoring, holding a professorship at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts.
JOSÉ LUIS GUTIÉRREZ /

José Luis Gutiérrez is the General Music Director of the Mittelsächsisches Theater, a role he assumed in the 2025/26 season after serving as First Kapellmeister. Known for his versatile musicianship and collaborative leadership, he conducts a broad operatic and symphonic repertoire. Highlights of the 2025/26 season include debuts at Oper Köln with the Gürzenich Orchestra, the Lakes Area Music Festival in Minnesota, and a China debut in summer 2026. He will also appear with the Sächsische Bläserphilharmonie and the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz. Gutiérrez made a notable debut at the Staatsoper Stuttgart in 2024 with Die Zauberflöte and previously worked with the San Francisco Opera in 2023 during its centennial season. His conducting credits include a wide range of operas from Carmen and Rigoletto to Hänsel und Gretel and Die Zauberflöte across major German theaters.

Bryan Cheng is a Canadian cellist of international acclaim, currently based in Berlin. A laureate of prestigious competitions such as the Queen Elisabeth, Concours de Genève, and Paulo Cello Competition, he has rapidly gained recognition for his expressive depth and dynamic stage presence. As soloist, Bryan Cheng appears with leading orchestras around the world including the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt (Frankfurt Radio Symphony), the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the Prague Philharmonia, the Helsinki Philharmonic, Brussels Philharmonic, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Musikkollegium Winterthur, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Orchestre Métropolitain, Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra Ottawa, Orchestre symphonique de Québec, the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of India, and many more. A passionate chamber musician, Cheng collaborates with renowned artists like Gidon Kremer, Kirill Gerstein, Sir András Schiff, Lars Vogt, Christian Tetzlaff, Angela Hewitt, Till Fellner, Viviane Hagner and Antje Weithaas. He is Musician-in-Residence with Halifax’s Cecilia Concerts and tours globally with his two ensembles, Cheng² Duo and CelloFellos. His most recent album Portrait was nominated for two JUNO Awards and highlights his dedication to contemporary and diverse repertoire.
ELLI CHOI / VIOLIN
At just 23 years old, award-winning violinist Elli Choi is already a standout figure in the world of classical music. Hailed as a musical prodigy and as one of the world´s top young violinists, she has captivated audiences around the globe, gracing some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall and David H. Koch Theater, the Berliner Philharmonie, Kimmel Center's Verizon Hall, Tonhalle Zürich, Rudolfinum Dvořák Hall in Prague, BOZAR Brussels, the Maison Symphonique de Montréal, the Abu Dhabi Palace and Beijing’s National Center for the Performing Arts. Elli Choi appears with major orchestras such as the Orchestre Philarmonique de Monte-Carlo, the Belgian National Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, and The Juilliard Orchestra. Highlights of her 2025/26 season include her Concertgebouw Amsterdam debut performing Bruch's Violin Concerto alongside the Ulster Orchestra, debuts with the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música performing Brahms' Violin Concerto and with the Orquesta Reino de Aragón performing "The Four Seasons" by Vivaldi. Winner of the Dubai Classic Violin Competition, the Monaco World Music Masters and the Qingdao International Violin Competition, her exceptional talent has also been recognized with top prizes from some of the most renowned competitions, the most recent being the Queen Elisabeth Violin Competition. A dedicated musician and scholar, Choi completed her undergraduate studies from Columbia University, while simultaneously enrolled at the Juilliard School where she has been studying since 2009. In 2025, she completed her Master's degree as a Kovner Fellow.
CARLOS FERREIRA / CLARINET
Carlos Ferreira is an award-winning clarinetist, recognized with prizes from the ARD International Competition in Munich, the Geneva International Competition, and the WEMAG Soloist Prize. Celebrated for his refined sound and compelling stage presence, he was named a 2024/25 ECHO Rising Star, thus performing at Europe's leading concert halls. Principal Clarinetist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Carlos held the same positions with the Orchestre National de France, the Philharmonia Orchestra in London, and Orchestre National de Lille. As soloist, Carlos performs with top orchestras including the Orchestre National de France, the Münchener Rundfunkorchester, the Orquestra Filarmónica Portuguesa, the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, the Münchener Kammerorchester, Prague Philharmonia, the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève and the Collegium Musicum Basel, and under the direction of acclaimed conductors such as Cristian Măcelaru, Lorenzo Viotti, Nuno Coelho and Valentin Uryupin. An active chamber musician, Carlos Ferreira collaborates with renowned artists like Hilary Hahn, Alice Sara Ott, Emmanuel Pahud, Quatuor Hermès, Timothy Ridout, Frank Duprée, Karen Gomyo, Julia Hagen and Sao Soulez-Larivière.
SÀO SOULEZ LARIVIÈRE / VIOLA
Sào Soulez Larivière is a rising Franco-Dutch violist, widely recognized for his exceptional talent and dedication to expanding the role of the viola in contemporary and classical music. A laureate of numerous international competitions — including the Prague Spring, Tokyo, Max Rostal, Cecil Aronowitz, and Johannes Brahms competitions — he was named 2023 Young Artist of the Year by the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) and selected as an ECHO Rising Star for the 2024/25 season. A forward-thinking musician, who balances a thriving performance career with a growing role as an educator and advocate for contemporary viola music, Sào enjoys arranging works for his instrument as well as collaborating with renowned composers such as Fazil Say, Olli Mustonen and Julia Wolfe - partnerships that gave him the unprecedented opportunity to delve deeper into the creative side of music. Sào regularly performs with his sister, violinist Cosima Soulez Larivière, and is a member of the acclaimed Frielinghaus Ensemble. He studied with Tabea Zimmermann in Berlin and earned a Master’s degree from the Kronberg Academy, where he continues as a Professional Studies student. In 2023, he was appointed professor of viola at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg.

José Luis Gutiérrez and the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz
On the 30. January, José Luis Gutiérrez leads the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz in Ludwigshafen, presenting a programme comprising works by Bernstein, Ravel, Márquez, Sibelius, Milhaud, Offenbach, J. Strauss und Leroy Anderson.

Sào Soulez Larivière at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam
The ‘Jonge Nederlanders’ series of the Concertgebouw Amsterdam presents home-grown Dutch talent. On the 16th of January, Sào Soulez Larivière and his sister Cosima, return to the Concertgebouw to play music ranging from Schumann to Kurtág, joined by cellist Bruno Philippe and pianist Martina Consonni.

Bryan Cheng´s month of January
The year 2026 starts on a high note for Bryan Cheng, as January is marked by his return to the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin for the orchestra´s New Year´s Concerts alongside CelloFellos partner Leonard Disselhorst.
Soon after, he makes his debut with the Nürnberger Symphoniker under the direction of Jonathan Darlington, as Bryan performs Camille Saint-Saëns' Cello Concerto No. 1 in three concerts on the 4th, 5th and 6th of January.
Another important debut is with the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover under the direction of Michael Sanderling on the 8th and 9th of January, as Bryan joins the orchestra for two performances of Elgar´s Cello Concerto.
His month of January continues with chamber music concerts alongside stage partners such as Karen Gomyo, Inmo Yang, Sindy Mohamed and Carlos Ferreira in Humlebæk, Denmark, as well as with Kirill Gerstein, Inmo Yang and Samuel Rosenthal in Kronberg.
